Geues - Sept. 17

On the road – 0750hrs, across the clay pan with only 1k of corrugations. Nundroo and dropped our rubbish into the bin.

Coombra Gate – 1000hrs – track corrugated, 12k’s in and deflate the tires to 30psi all round and breakfast in the process.

Only one tree branch to cut, several busted off and one particularly large limb came down. Cowley 02 Track with my marker plate still in place, but had not been used, now another two lots of track added. Takes out the tight bend on out way out.

1300hrs at the Geuse access sand hill, walked the ridge to a high vantage point – no one in any of the camps – beauty straight in and over the sand hill 1st attempt, 4wd and front diff’s locked in. 21 minutes and onsite.

Our camp site Guese 2 - vacant! as per booking
Drive time from Scotts to Geuse 4hr 20min.
Avg 32.4kph, 25.3lhk for the 136k’s
Checked out the beach - no visible activity on the beach - Beauty!!
Ready to set up camp
A casualty on our way in - Bugger!
Chook and TJ arrived about 40 minutes after we arrived. We had already checked out the beach and our wind flag installed.
Treasures at camp 3
Neat!
One of the many under size  Mulloway

It's a tad warm

She's a bit breezy
Warm night with the wind going back around to the north and gusting.

0500hrs – coffee and on the beach 0530hrs – no fish, 0630hrs the westerly hit and kept going around to the south east and back to the south gusting 40kph.

0900hrs back to camp for a cooked breakfast  - boiled eggs and toast.

1400hrs black clouds and it rained – 1st occasion at Geue. We ended up with 15mm.
1030hrs back on the beach – immediate hook up and dropped in the back wash. Landed a salmon and a TAILOR! Our fishing species book states they are good eating – bled and ice down.

1540hrs pig roast on the BBQ, good crackling developed 1650hrs pig done and roast veg done in 30+ minutes on the BBQ with well controlled temp in the converted electric frying pan c/w lid.

1700hrs Chook off to show Chris and Brody – Titchy – back by 1730 for tea – 1735hrs and tea is being served and enjoyed by all, except Brody who is a snags, noodles and KFC kid.

Roast easy carve pig with roast and steamed veg, followed by vanilla ice cream in waffle cones – 10 out of 10 from me!!

0515hrs pocked head out the annex – light rain, south easterly @ 50kph, back to bed xxxx - Bugger the fish!!

0600hrs coffee and condition no better. Walk the sand dunes ½ way to Tichy – no treasures only dingo and camel tracks.

1000hrs fishable with the south easterly 30kph ++ and 18 degrees.

1230 – called lunch and back on the beach 1400hrs and chucked in the my fish frames Chris hacked up and later retrieved from Brody’s – 1.4mtr and 52# Mullaway hooked 1430hrs. With a Sheila’s cast barely over the sand bar, but in the gutter. Half a pilchard on 5/0 hooks and he’s on with line peeling off and rod pointed directly at the fish. Then Chris took over and took a good 10 minutes to land the fish, with GPC as ‘GAFFER’. Chris nearly blew a gasket i.e. his BP was sky high by the time he landed the fish.

Only a couple of salmon landed in the major period, but it’s better than the minor period in the AM on the low.

Tea – left over roast pig and magnum ice creams – ‘MINI’S’ back onto the beach 1830hrs south easterly @ 30kph and kept increasing, 2030hrs called it quits.

0600hrs on the beach and fish till enough light to walk the reef on the low – no ab’s or cray’s in the rock holes.

0800hrs Chris called up and on the ‘TRACK’ out of here with his fish cargo.

0930hrs – a few taps and spitting, called time out and back to camp for breakfast.

We had 3.2mm rain over night

1300hrs back on the beach and then the rain set in – 12mm from 1400hrs to 2400hrs

Not very often we see a low tide like this - alas no abs on the reef.

Several salmon and 2 Mulloway both undersize – 60mm

1630hrs called time and Teresa cooked roast lamb – excellent meal, did not venture out fishing as still raining.

18 degrees all day. Rain finally let up around 12MN – no wind

Our last day - time to think about packing

0430hrs too early to fish and 13 degrees, 0645hrs awoke no wind or rain.

Soon on the beach and Sue soon followed but Sue landed a good size Salmon only for morning, Chook did not show up until 0900hrs as crook from the red last night.

Brunch 1030hrs and started packing till 1300hrs and back to fish the high tide – no fish action at all, a few taps.

Chook and TJ landed a few salmon only.

1700hrs camp and packed all done by 1915hrs.

Geoff and Tom Bailey  dropped by – no Mulloway - only one legal for the duration.

Worth one more walk up the sand hill

0530hrs – light nor westerly, but soon turned to a westerly and dark clouds rolling in.

Packed and on the road 0730hrs, Chook had 2 stabs at the slope coming out, did not gun it the 1st time around. 1hr 46min to the Coombra Gate – breakfast and inflate tires. Chook n TJ off home, we will camp at Haslam.

Chook and TJ oof home - a good 10 hour drive

Meanwhile we ___

Yalata servo to complete the tire inflation on the van. Walked over the YLM Office, no one there. Knock on the next lot of cabins with an official vehicle outside – Youth Worker, nah! No one here for YLM. He reckoned the YLM was in town, what Ceduna. No the Community – Eh! Hardly call it a town.

The YLM office is right next to his cabin. Had only been onsite 2 weeks and thought we had been on Yalata beach fishing – no we are not permitted, but he would have access.

Penong and the Store closed, Pub has no lunch meals – servo full of bikies doing a charity push bike ride from Melbourne to Perth.

Great hamburger w/the lot for $10, and Sue bacon and egg sanga for $9 both loaded.

Ceduna – refueled at Shell @ $1.24/ltr with disc. However the Puma tank on the road out of town is a self service style system and fuel at $1.189/ltr

Kept moving to Haslam – 5hr 33min drive time day. 324k’s

Could not stay awake past 1900hrs – reasonable night sleep – all this fishing activity.

Next - on going Troopy and Bush Tracker maintenance
